FRAGMENT NEWS
October 2008
I guess the summer's over then - or maybe it never even started. We're just off to play a concert in England, then its the yearly Bathmen kermis, and then... errr... some more gigs.
We may well have mentioned how good the Zwarte Cross festival, but anyway - it was. We finally managed to get the photos on the site - have a look - many, many thanks to Berend for those . There are also videos on the way [from SBS6 and Giel Beelen's show], but we need to edit them first. Also the Zwarte Cross newsletter surprisingly picked Fragment out as the very best of the 100 bands - we enjoyed reading that immensely, but find it hard to believe ["De vaste huisband Fragment maakte het helemaal af en knapten er nog eens driewerf hoera overheen en dat is niet makkelijk na zulke toppers! Maar waar sommige bands 10 man op het podium nodig hebben om het een beetje te laten klinken, flikten die verrekte Engelsen het met z’n drieën; ze waren gewoon de allerbeste band van de hele Zwarte Cross"]
A quick mention to other places we've been to recently - Reusel, Wintelre, Zundert and Bedum. All places we played many years ago - good to be back there again. And Willemstad was the first time for us. Lovely people, lovely village and a really nice evening for us. Thanks for the kind comments in the guestbook as well.
Aug2008
Another Zwarte Cross festival has now come and gone....doesn't time fly.. we'll all be dead before we know it, but at least we have the Zwarte f***ing Cross to look forward once a year in the meantime. What can we say? It was brilliant, unforgettable, indescribable - all 5 shows that we did were great - the festival is great, the organisation is fantastic, but best of all what a public. As a band, its really just a question of playing a few chords, and letting the public sing the rest for you - all 10.000 of them - its that simple. The last show on Sunday evening was probably the best of our shows [though we also particularly enjoyed the Children's show as well]. In addition, we also appeared on Giel Beelen's radio/TV show on Friday night [accompanied by Hans "Mongo"Bouwman - thanks mate], and we also featured for a couple of minutes on the SBS6 Zwarte Cross Journaal, which makes us feel almost famous at least for a day or two until we check our bank accounts. Photos [thanks Berend - brilliant photos] and videos of everything will go up as soon as possible - its a lot of stuff so thats why its taking a while. We also want to thanks everyone else who helped us out [Corné, Vincent, Marjan, Ilona, Frans, and the fabulous Fragmentette dancers, all of whom were absolutely brilliant]. Also thanks everyone for the kind comments in the guestbook. And, of course, Jovink bedankt. There's more to tell - but that'll do for now.
By the way - the gigs in Katwijk and Ootmarsum were also rather good. Plenty of gigs coming up - so come and see us soon.
July2008
Our week in Nijmegen was great, maybe even better than in past years. The decibel limit means the bands have to play at a really, really low volume. But somehow it doesn't seem to matter - the people there have fun whatever, even if the band sounds like its playing somewhere in the next village. Great fun - we'll be back there next year for sure.
........... and then coming up....3 days at the world's best festival. Thats the Zwarte Cross of course. So see you all there. We're going to be doing at least 5 performances there, including 2 in the massively enormous megatent, and also a children's show, which we're looking forward to. Look out for us on the SBS6 Zwarte Cross Journaal too - our ugly faces should be regularly polluting your TV screens for the duration of the festival. And listen out for us on Giel Beelen's 3fm radio show, some time after 1 o'clock Friday night/Saturday morning.
Go here for excellent photos of the Blauwhuis gig. Many thanks to Berend for these.June 2008
Last week we were in Woensdrecht [with The Old Firm - bloody good band] and Zieuwent - both new places for us, and both really nice gigs with great audiences. Thanks for having us - we'd love to be there again next year. The other gig last weekend was Boode in Bathmen - we enjoyed ourselves, as always - we'll be back there again sin a few months probably.
2 new concerts coming up for us this weekend - one in Reyerscop and the other at the Dobbe festival in Koudum, which looks like it could be big and beery.
May 2008
Hello again - we're back form our holidays. Straight back into the feesttent season. You'll undoubtedly be seeing us at a big, beery tent somewhere near you in the near future. In the last couple of weeks we've been to Lichtenvoorde, Vaassen [ for the 5th?? time], Westelbeers, Gilze [good to be back] and Albergen [for the first time]. All really nice gigs - good people one and all.
This weekend, its Achterhoek time in Varsseveld and Ruurlo - we expect beer to be drunk in large quantities - should be good. Next week in Zieuwent.
Oh and by the way - look out for the Fragment Kindershow and Fragment Mobile in the near future. More details soon....or mail us if you need more details.
February 2008
Its pretty quiet at the moment, but getting busier all the time. However, this gives us time to be busy with other projects. We're all busy writing songs for ourselves and other artists. One of Jono's songs is soon to be released in Spain, in a Spanish version, by Guillermo Martin [whoever he is - apparently he's quite famous].We can't really say when all these songs will be released, but we have high hopes for some of them.
In the meantime, we've been officially booked for Zwarte Cross yet again - we'll be there for 3 days like we were last year. No idea what we'll be doing exactly, but it will undoubtedly be fun and probably very muddy.
January 2008
First of all, a Happy New Year to one and all.
We're just back from our Xmas/New Year break, although we also played 2 concerts on New Year's Eve - in Renesse and Rotterdam. Both a lot of fun as always. The concert at a hotel in Renesse was livened up by the presence of Blof in the same hotel. Paskal used to be a bit of a Fragment fan when he was 16 or so, which gives you an idea of how old we are, so he was glad to join us on drums [possibly not his best instrument], and later on upside down bass guitar [he's left-handed] and vocals on a moderately disastrous version of Brown-eyed Girl. Van Morrison would have spun in his grave, if he had one. Hopefully he enjoyed it as much as we all did.
December 2007
Latest news: Tim has a son! His wife Margreeth gave birth to baby Joe on Thursday [22nd.Nov]. Mother and son are doing fine. He even has hair - ahhhh.... isn't he cute?
We really enjoyed our first time at the Rowwen Heze Slotfeest. It wasn't incredibly busy in the afternoons when we played, but nevertheless there was a really nice atmosphere, and we really hope they invite us back next year. The gig in Vollenhove was also great.
The gig at the Hooizolder was nice - we've been playing there for nearly 20 years [!!]. Its like home to us - we must have done more than 200 concerts there, which is incredible. And Plan C, in Rotterdam, was a lovely night - we still love playing there and we've been playing there even longer [somewhere between 100 and 150 concerts probably]. Yes - we are quite old now....
November 2007
We're back from holiday again, oh yes! And we've just uploaded a short live videoclip filmed at Ridderpop. Watch it here [thanks to Gert for spotting that one...]
For those who saw us play in Beringe - thanks! It was a great night, particularly since Tim was unable to be there. We think 30euro's David Bakker did a great job in replacing him. Schanspop was one of the year's best gigs for us. 3.000 people or something and a fantastic night - we also enjoyed watching and chatting to De Dijk and Roel van Velzen, an old friend from years ago. Bergsma in Oosterend was also great as it always is.
September was very busy - so busy we can't quite remember where we've been. I remember Jan Smit failed to arrive in Holten, but it was a still a really nice day there. Bathmen last week was also particularly wild and sweaty, and Swolgen [for the first time] was another excellent gig. And Wanssum too..very nice.
Sept 2007: AUG 2007:
We've now tracked down the SBS6 "Zwarte Cross journaal" footage of us at Zwarte Cross this year and so we've uploaded it to the site. Watch it here. Loads of photos have now also been added - go and have a look on the photos page, why don't you?
Just a few more gigs this month, including Schanspop with Van Velzen and De Dijk. And then we will be having a well-earned holiday after a busy summer.
September was very busy - so busy we can't quite remember where we've been. I remember Jan Smit failed to arrive in Holten, but it was a still a really nice day there. Bathmen last week was also good, and Swolgen [for the first time] was another excellent gig.
AUG 2007: We're just back from the 2007 Zwarte Cross festival - this year we played 6 concerts there. It was f****** hard work but fantastic f****** fun. Its the best festival in Holland and we're proud and happy to be a part of it. Brilliantly organised, and the public, as always, was just great.
We played 2 of the biggest concerts of our lives in the Megatent [to 8-10.000 people] -wow - what can you say? Our acoustic campfire set was also great fun, and the kindershow was another great experience for us. We really enjoyed that show - even though we started an hour late [due to the stage being stuck in the mud! - and also cos we had been rather too ambitious with our plans for the show..] At various times at various gigs we were joined onstage by all the Jovinks and various other unplanned guest vocalists, some of whom were bloody brilliant - sorry we can't remember your names.
At the last show in the Megatent, we were joined by the Shitt Happens girls, and The Old Firm boys, which made it even more special. Thanks to them, and, of course, Jovink bedankt.. See you all next year!!
July 2007
The concert in De Hooizolder on 20 July has been cancelled. We are however playing there in November and possibly once before then as well. Sorry about that.
We're just beginning the busiest months of the year for us - July and August - we have something like 40 gigs in the next 8 or 9 weeks, so look out for us somewhere near you. We've been in Friesland a lot recently. All really nice gigs - lovely people those Frieslanders. We should also give a special mention to the Phoenix in Hegelsom, where we've been playing for more than 20 years, and its still always great fun.
Ridderpop was great in spite of the rain - great reactions in the guestbook. Then 4 days in Nijmegen - there was rain but, as always, the Nijmegen public was wonderful. And then it was off to Zwarte Cross for 6 gigs in 3 days.
June 2007
A quick report on where we've been recently:
Harich in Friesland a couple of weeks back - the first time there, was really nice. We like Friesland. Tim is able to count to 10 in Fries [maybe] and regurgitate 'n Nije Dei in parrotlike fashion, though so far he's never been mistaken for Syb.
The Oirschot Dolleweekend is a sort of mini Zwarte Cross. We played there with Henk Wijngaard, who actually joined us onstage for a spontaneous jam, featuring his hits, none of which we kinow. He seems to have lost part of one [or 2] of his fingers in an accident, so playing guitar causes him great pain. There's a joke there, but better not. Lovely bloke - Henk.Almen was great - a lovely, lively audience who made it easy for us. And Biest-Houtakker was also really cool. We don't seem to be in Brabant that much nowadays, but that was the second time in a few days.
April 2007
We will be performing at the wonderful Zwarte Cross festival again this year for the 5th [or 6th??] time. What's more we have been appointed as the official 'houseband' for the full 3 days [27/ 28/ 29 July]. And we will therefore not only be performing as the final act on Sunday in the big tent [after our generous hosts, Jovink], but also on various other podia throughout the 3 days [including the "kindershow" and possibly a theatre show]. We are eternally greateful to the Jovinks for offering us this fantastic opportunity.
There's more big shows coming up too - Udenhout Onder Zeil in a few weeks time, also Ridderpop has now been finalised - we're playing on Friday 6.July with several big acts, namely Van Velzen & Di-Rect. See the poster right>>>
Other news - we're planning the official release of the Equinox album within the next month. And at the same time we're now working on a second album project with DJ Henry - this is going to be a sort of Party House album... sort of dancey and yet at the same time with the feel and energy of Fragment live in concert.....could be good....
February 2007
We did the TV Tien morning show thing last week as mentioned here. We enjoyed it and received many good reactions. The song we performed was Equinox, taken from the new album of the same name, featuring Tim on piano and lead vocals. Not sure what the song's about really - ask Tim, he'll tell you. We'll put the lyrics up one day soon. Click here for a short video of our performance, or here for the short interview we did in our dodgy Dutch.
We will be appearing on TV Tien [formerly Talpa] this Friday 2.February.
The program is called "Tijd voor Tien" and around 11 in the morning, we will be performing the song "Equinox" taken from the new Fragment album, "The Equinox project". There will also be a short interview with the band. Its a lovely tune - Tim on piano and singing, Dave on backing vocals and Jono just sort of plinking away on acoustic guitar, like no-one has ever plinked before. If you miss the show, as most people probably will, then we'll put up a short video of it here one day very soon. The Equinox project CD [see the news page for more details] is now finished - the first copies have now been sent off to Spain, where the music will be used to help promote the book, Equinox , written by Tim's old friend Michael White. Its not sure at this point whether the album will be officially released in Holland, but we are at present setting up a system for online CD and merchandising sales via this site. That should be ready very soon, we expect. We'll bring you more details of the album, plus some audio samples from it very soon.
October 2006
We've just recorded and released "Resurrect You" as a single. We hope to be getting some airplay on radio soon - listen out for it. If you don't recognise the voice, its cos its Jono who's singing the song, rather than Dave or Tim. We'll put up a short preview of the song very soon. This is all tied in with the release of the book "Equinox" on 23 september, written by Tim's friend Michael White. Actually we all played in a band with Michael many years ago for a short while. The publicity around the book is enormous - its a thriller, in a similar genre to "The
Da Vinci Code" - there's a countdown on the frontpage of many Dutch newspapers and there will also be TV advertising and probable mentions all over the media [look out for it and maybe us in RTL Boulevard one day soon]. It was the Dutch publisher Unieboek who asked us to record some music for the book - they had heard about our links with the writer via Michael White himself. We're also going to record an album, "The Equinox Project", in the next month.
For more about the book go to http://www.thrillervanhetjaar.nl they've just added a short "fragment" [what else??] of the song to that site, though I should mention we are at present re-recording at re-mixing the song, so it will get better....July 26, 2006
What a week! We're just back from the mighty Zwarte Cross, which just gets bigger and better each year [78.000 visitors this year apparently]. Its an enormous honour for us to play each year, and a big challenge to go on after the magnificent Jovinks. And it was, once again, a wonderful gig for us - great public, a lot of beer flying around, as well as Tim's birthday cake!! Jovink bedankt, Jovink bedankt, Jovink, Jovink, Jovink bedankt!
But there was more this week - 3 days in Nijmegen - the Bascafe, gezellig as always, and then the 6000+ people at Koningsplein. And then Friday in Wierden with Jan Smit - that must have been another 6000 or more, I don't know. But the public there was really lovely - please invite us back next year!! And then onto Rietmolen with the excellent Crystal Dreamers. A great week indeed......
June 25, 2006
It seems to be the time of year for onstage jamming at the moment. First there was Syb and many others in Drachten. Then last week we bumped into the fabulous Jovink in Eersel. We started the second set with Mongo on drums, but soon the other Jovinks all joined - great fun! We'll be seeing them again soon at the Zwarte Cross of course. Looking forward to that. Last weekend we were playing with Di-rect - I think its the 4th. time we've played with them, and so once again we had a geat time together, and what a lovely audience it was too in Ens. We found this report from Bas of Di-rect on their website:
"Zaterdag stonden we voor de 2e keer in Ens op de Ensyfair, toen we aan kwamen stond Fragment (in nederland gevesitgde engelse coverband die werkelijk alles speelt wat je maar kunt bedenken echt een te gekke band!) Inside my head te spelen. The next one is U2's with or without you, Dee, Aee, Bee, Gjee..." Voor ik het wist had ik zijn bas alweer om mijn nek en stond Spike met een gitaar in zijn handen en zat Jamie voor de 2e keer die avond op de kruk van hun drummer,...Al met al een lekker spontane avond met een super enthousist publiek, super koel!"
June 1, 2006
We seem to be playing with lots of famous acts at the moment - Racoon last week in Nijmegen. That was a bleedin' good gig, we have to say. Di-rect soon and De Dijk, I think and lots of others [Henk Wijngard - does he count? No, not really] , and then there's the Zwarte Cross in July, where everyone is playing, including Fragment, of course. And the rest I've forgotten, but its gonna be a good summer when the rain stops tumbling down, and England win the World Cup. So there....
Forgot to mention all the other great recent gigs - Biesthoutakker, Blauwhuis, Babberich, Vaassen, Denekamp and Scooters in Drachten, where we were joined by countless guests including Syb v.d. Ploeg [see photo], Nico Outhuijse and Froukje Kits [Boulevard].
May 2006
We've just had an excellent run of concerts this last week. It started off in Berkel, where we haven't played for a few years, so we were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere and indeed the lovely screaming girls. Made us feel almost ........ young, but only almost .
Then we flew into Twello [well actually we drove, but that doesn't sound as good], and boy was it cold - cold enough to freeze Dave's testicles and probably his dogs' too [oh no, there they are again]. But fortunately the people of Twello were suitably warm, even hot, and we forgot the frostbite. Excellent gig...And then it was Koninginnedag - we started in Bleiswijk, where to be quite honest, it was also pretty damn chilly, and the PA system was cleverly pointed in the wrong direction. But naturally we rose above it all, and much fun was had by all. Then down the A1 we sped, at an illegal velocity, and enjoyed ourselves in Borne, where once again we were surprised by the enthusiasm and indeed passion of the Bornerians - we ended up sitting on the edge of stage playing "Yesterday", just like we used to do in the old days [when we were younger]. Happy days...
January 2006
Happy New Year to everyone. May 2006 be a great year for each and everyone of us, particularly for the English football team. Its gonna be another busy Fragment year - lots of concerts, as always, maybe a single or 2 to be released, we're not sure yet...... and hopefully more poledancers and scantily-clad women on stage.
Any big Fragment plans for 2006? Errr...yes...maybe.... we're talking about possible singles and maybe even an album, but nothing definite. And also we're talking about a theatre show which is a long-term project [maybe 2007]. Tim's nearly finished building his house, Jono's still writing songs [there are at last several artists who want to record some of them soon], and Dave is slowly recovering from his first few years of fatherhood.
Here's a picture of the Fragment kids all together - a nice photo for the New Year, we reckon. Left top: Lisa Fosh; In the buggy: Leonard Marriner; Middle: Jessi Fosh; Right middle: Donna Alexander; Bottom right: Hannah Marriner
19.July, 2005
Wow - what a great time we had at Zwarte Cross!!! Even better than in previous years - great organisation, a great line-up of bands, and, for us, a really memorable concert. One of the all-time great Fragment gigs, we reckon. So thanks to the Jovink people for organising it all, thanks to the skippy-ball girls and the pole-dancer who helped make it special, and thanks to the public who made it such fantastic fun. Photos coming soon.... but here's one for a start..... Cool....
26.June, 2005
* Its starting to get quite busy now. In the next few weeks we'll be back in places such as Hoogeloon, Hegelsom, De Heurne, Denekamp and America. And we're also in Vollenhove for the first time, as far as we can remember. Many beers will surely be consumed......
* We'd like to apologise for the fact that we haven't sent out a newsletter for many months - there's a good reason for this - its because we're useless bastards. So sorry - we'll try to do better in the future - forgive us.
30.May, 2005
* We were back in Koudum for the first time in 8 years last week - and what fun we had. Hopefully it won't be 8 years before we're back there again. There's a whole bunch of photos from Koudum now added to the photos page, plus some photos from Beckum and Heeten.
19.May, 2005
* Great gigs in Beckum [as always] and Bornerbroek! Hope to be back at both next year...
* We enjoyed a mighty fine Bevrijdingsdag in Doetinchem and Vaassen, and attempted to take all the credit for for liberating the Dutch 60 years ago - it might have been our grandfathers, or maybe it wasn't.* The concert in Witkamp, Laren on 28/5 has been cancelled - sorry about that.
10.April, 2005
Time for some news at last - some excellent gigs recently - special mention to Marum, where we just played for the first time. Nice people - hope to be back there some time later in the year. Sunday in Delden with Normaal was also cool.
We've added some publicity photos to the site on the photos page - these are very high resolution pics - feel free to download them for your own purposes whatever that may be.
Also I'm busy with uploading various live mp3s from various recent concerts - the recording quality is variable, but hopefully the recordings will still be suitably entertaining. And if you think they're rubbish, well, you may well be right. However, they are free so you can't really complain, can you? All to be found on the downloads page, of course.....
8.January, 2005
Hope you all had a fine Xmas and New Year. Happy 2005 to you all! And thanks for all the best wishes we received, and thanks for being here and reading this. 2005 is going to be another busy Fragment year. Many, many concerts as always, a good number of them in new locations, such as Time Out, Gemert and others in places we haven't been for a few years, such as Balkbrug and Reutum.
The first major news for us is that we have now signed with a new booking agency, New Entertainment, based in Enschede. We're very much looking forward to working with them, and hope it will be a long and profitable relationship. Read more about that here....
There are also plans for at least one single this year, possibly a cover number though we're not sure what this is going to be yet. One way or another we hope to see Fragment getting the attention we think they deserve from radio, press and TV. Is 2005 gonna be that BIG year? - you never know...we tend to say that every year, but fortunately we are patient people.
Have fun! See you around........
28.November
Whatever happened to all the news? The summer sort of flew by and then everything went all quiet. There have of course been a whole load of great gigs recently - Bill's, Dieka, Oosterend, Hengstenbal and Bruijns to name but a few. But for the rest its been fairly "rustig" - Tim is building a house, Dave has 2 young kids keeping him awake, and Jono is busy writing songs [mainly for other, more famous artists - nothing confirmed yet but hopefully there'll be some definite news on that after Christmas]. There have been many discussions and meetings about "business matters". More news on that also after Xmas.
Possibly a new single in early 2005, once again nothing definite...speaking of which, have a look on the Press page at all the album reviews - there's a few more come in recently.
Thats all for now - look out for lots of news next year.....
15.September
Its been a busy last few weeks - some great gigs, with a special mention to Bernissepop and Holten last weekend - both were a lot of fun. It was of course a great honour to play with Holland's finest band, Blof, at Bernissepop. We managed to chat with them a bit before playing, and they watched us perform "De Zeeuwse Kust" and other songs from the side of the stage. The last time we performed with Blof [about 8 years ago], Fragment was top of the bill and they were the support band, and Paskal also told us how they regularly used to watch us play in Zeeland many years ago. Cool! And thanks to the many people who mailed us their compliments about the performance.
And last week we made an surprise early-morning appearance on Giel Beelen's Radio 3fm show. 3.Sept was DJ Cobus Bosscha's last day on Radio 3fm, and Fragment were called in by Giel Beelen to wake him up at 7 in the morning, by singing loudly in his back garden! Listen to it here. [You'll need realplayer]. Later we joined Cobus and Giel in the studio to sing a special "Goodbye cobus" song.. You can see 2 videos of us on Giel's video archive [First we wake him with "Cobus wordt gewekt" and then we sing "Het Cobuslied"]. And good luck, Cobus, in the future!
12.August
This Saturday 14 August we will be appearing live on Radio 2 for Tros Muziekcafé 16-18.00. We will be performing 3 songs from the "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" album. Please tune into Radio 2 or, better still, come along to the show itself in Amsterdam. It takes place at Studio Plantage, Plantage Kerklaan 36, 1018 CZ Amsterdam. This is right next to the Artis Zoo. Everyone is welcome from 14.00 onwards and entrance is free.
As mentioned in the newsletter, Dave's girlfriend recently gave birth to their second child, a boy called Leonard [I'd post a photo but I don't have one yet]. So congratulations to them both from us all. As you may have noticed, Dave was replaced at a number of recent concerts by the young, able and handsome Rik Zengerink. He did a fine job, and for a short while the stage was a prettier place. And, of course, a quick thanks to fellow 30Euro men Peter and David, who replaced Jono for a couple of days, when he was in England due to family commitments.
We've added a few unusual mp3s to the downloads section - Jono's "De Luiaard", his entry for "Kinderen voor Kinderen" and a couple of songs produced by soundman Danny, featuring Dave and Tim on vocals. We'll be adding a few more photo galleries soon - from Coevorden [thanks Berend], which you can see here already, backstage at Zwarte Cross [see photo right of Fragment-sponsored Freek, the local maniac, winner of the "Taliban" class] and various uncategorised photos collected over the years. They should be ready soon. And coming soon a number of live Fragment recordings, also mixed by Danny. And also a copy of the PZC article about Tim...
The re-released Wrong Train single has received a lot of airplay on a number of stations including Omroep Brabant, Radio Rebecca and Optimaal FM, without really taking off on national radio. We're now discussing the possibility of releasing a new single after the summer.
And, finally, a quick mention to www.hartvoortanzania.nl - we played a benefit concerts for these guys a month ago in Pijnacker [see photo left]. They are now busy with the project in Tanzania, where they are helping with the building of an orphanage. Good luck guys - check out their site for news on the project.
23.July
Its been a good week...
Once again the Zwarte Cross festival was a fantastic success, superbly organised by the Jovinks and friends. It was a great honour for us to be asked to play there again for the 3rd. time. This year we were once again playing on the "hoofdpodium" on the Saturday night in the massive tent with Rowen Heze and 10,000 or so enthusiastic visitors. Not even the monsoon rainfall was able to dampen the spirit of the crowd. We had great fun, and were once again joined onstage by Mongo and Cohen for a few songs, including Oerend hard and Brommers Kieken. Lovely people, those Jovinks...thanks guys!! In their Zwarte Cross program, they
described Fragment as "Met afstand de beste live act van Nederland" - they're obviously forgetting themselves amongst others, but WOW! thats quite a compliment...And on the Zwarte Cross website they had more generous words for us in their Saturday festival report "Speciale lof voor de superband Fragment. Wat zijn die gasten goed met hun drietjes, kippenvel !" What can we say??
Zwarte Cross photos here.......
And if thats not enough, we've also received an excellent review of our album "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah", which appeared in various regional newspapers such as the "PZC" and "Het Dagblad van het Noorden". It ends with.... "Om de een of andere reden is Fragment geen hitgroep, maar met Yeah Yeah Yeah zou dat wel eens kunnen veranderen. Het is te hopen, want in Nederland lopen weinig bandjes rond die zo leuk zijn." Cool....read it all here and then maybe buy the album, please.......
And then Tim was interviewed by the PZC and then Aktueel, so look out for those interviews soon....And then we appeared in a local paper in England - if we had this sort of publicity the whole year round, then maybe we could all buy a helicopter...
Oh..and a special mention of the Nijmegen Vierdaagse concert on Wednesday, which was also a big success. Despite the sound limit, we still managed to jam up the Betouwestraat with a few thousand spectators, so that was good.... Not a bad week at all....
28.June
Time for a big site update. We've now added 7 new photo galleries from recent concerts, including the album presentation in Rotterdam and our trip to Ibiza. And now added to the downloads section we have some mp3s from our appearance on Omroep Brabant, featuring David Bakker on guitar and brother Peter on piano - She's Lost ,
www.fragmentlive.com , and an interview with Tim.
Hopefully some of you will have heard the "Wrong Train" single on a radio station near you - it has been re-released to promote the official album release. We're expecting some reviews of the album in a few publications very soon. We're also getting more requests to play more of the songs live, so we'll try to play at least one of our own songs per night.
As you may have noticed, we've just got back from Ibiza, where we played 3 concerts in a bar in Santa Eulalia. Its a small bar, with mainly English clients, but the atmosphere was really nice. We enjoyed Ibiza a lot - its a beautiful island, still largely untouched by the scars of tourism, if you manage to get away from the tourist resorts. We'd like to go back some time. Go to the photos page to have a look at our visit. If you do, you'll notice that Dave wasn't there - he was in fact replaced at the last moment by the talented Sander Meijer from Groningen, who performed brilliantly under difficult circumstances. Thanks Sander!!
Finally - our album has now been added to the Lowlands Top 25, where you can vote for it [once a day]. At the moment its still not in the top 25 - we need you to vote for us, so that maybe those Lowland people will invite Fragment to play at little festival. "Fragment at Lowlands" - sounds good - so vote for us and make it happen.....
1.June
The album release party in Rotterdam was fantastic fun, largely due to all the guest musicians who joined us on stage. For the first time we were really able to do our own songs justice at a live concert - Peter Bakker [of 30EURO fame] on piano was superb, Nico Oothuijse [of Spanner, and the album's producer] was his usual dynamic self on drums, and Froukje [of Boulevard] was as beautiful as ever, singing "Beautiful" and other unrehearsed covers with us later on. The whole thing reached its climax in a superjam featuring all those 3 plus the other 30EUROers, Rik and David. Occasionally it sounded like were all playintg the same song at the same time. Thanks to everyone who came!!
Then on Saturday it was off to Beckum - we like Beckum a lot - its big, busy and beery. And a lot of fun. And we get to hang around with whatever famous band they also booked for the evening. This year it was Di-Rect. We've met Di-Rect a few times, usually at big gigs like Beckum, and they always seem happy to talk to us less famous beings. No signs of arrogance - and when they get on stage they give it everything. Having taught us the chords to "Inside my Head" they watched us perform it, and later Jamie see photo left] and Spike joined us on stage for 2 songs ["Heb je even voor mij"!!! and Great Balls of Fire, which they'd probably never heard before]. We appreciate their good sportsmanship. Thanks guys......
We'll be posting all the photos from Rotterdam and Beckum in the next few days.
28.April, 2004
The album will finally be officially released in May. We are planning a special release party in "Plan C", Rotterdam on Friday 28. May. Everyone is welcome to come - the entrance will be free, and it should be great fun. We'll be performing many of the songs from the album, along with some of the usual stuff.
We also expect to have some very special guests helping us out. Please come along and help us make it a memorable evening.
Summer's nearly here, and we're starting to confirm all those big summer concerts - the 3 that immediately come to mind are BernissePop, Zwarte Cross, and Beckum, 3 of the biggest and best gigs we did last summer. We're glad to say we're back again at all of them - at BernissePop we'll be supporting Blof, Holland's finest band, we reckon. You might also want to read Tim's account of last years gig where we were performing with Kane. And we're at the Zwarte Cross festival on Saturday 16. July along with Rowwen Hèze and other great bands. Should be great fun...... And we're in Beckum on 29.May, where we'll be playing with Di-Rect. We're going to be doing a whole bunch of other big "feesttents" and big outdoor gigs too.. More details as they come in.
Sorry that there hasn't been much news recently - we had a holiday for a few weeks, but now we're back and playing the gigs again. Also sorry there hasn't been a newsletter for a while - if you're on our mailing list, then expect a new newsletter any day now.
Dieka last week was much fun as always - we've had a lot of inquiries about our guest musicians there - Rik, David and Peter of the band "30 Euro" [see photo right]. Check out their website - they're younger and prettier than us, which isn't difficult.....
More photos soon......
19.Februari, 2004
Now added to the downloads - 3 new mp3s - Hey Jude, Better be Home Soon and Runaround Sue - all recorded live and unplugged in Plan C, Rotterdam.
6.Februari, 2004
Congratulations to the winners of the CD competition!! First prize went to Peter Fens from Oudenbosch who wins a free Fragment concert!!
2nd. prize [dinner with the band] was won by Adinda Hozee of Breda and 3rd.prize [various Fragment CDs/t-shirts] to Frans Stalpers. All the winners have been informed.
The draw was filmed to prove it was all done fairly and we'll put the video here on the website very soon.....once again thanks to everyone who bought the CD!!
3.Februari, 2004
Excellent gig in Varsseveld last Saturday - thanks to everyone for creating such a great atmosphere!! We're in Wehl on Sunday 8. Feb. so look out for us there.....
The single seems to have died - didn't really do quite as well as we hoped even though it was our first-ever Top 50 hit.....thanks for buying it everyone - and on that subject...who won the competition? Really sorry that its taken us so long to select a winner - we could make a lot of excuses, but basically we're inefficient bastards, and the winner will be informed within a few days. And since its taken so long, I reckon we should give out a few extra prizes as well...
And what happened to the promised live radio performances in January?? - the answer is...err...we don't really know. We really thought there was all sorts of stuff coming up, and in the end it just didn't happen. Feel free to bombard the national radio stations with questions as to why they don't have us on more often...
On the bright side, we have some rather nice unplugged recordings made in Plan C, Rotterdam last year - the 3 songs are "Hey Jude", "Better be Home Soon" and "Runaround Sue", and the mp3s will be here for you to download any day now....
27.Januari, 2004
Oops - the single seems to be tumbling down the charts again.....last week at #51, now #61.......oh dear!! Its now #16 in the Dutchsound Top30.
We've finally made into the Top 50 this week!! "Beautiful" is now #43 in the Mega Top 100. That's 4 weeks now in the Top 100. So thanks to everyone who help put it there. Lets hope it keeps on climbing.
Also now #11 in the Dutchsound Top30
And - 3 new photo galleries [Oosterend, Zuidlaren & Nuenen] now added to the photo section.....
7.Januari, 2004
Back to work....The single was at nr. 66 in the Top 100 last week..still waiting for this week's chart. Thanks evryone who has bought it - it looks like its finally starting to move in the right direction. We'll be announcing a winner of the win-a-concert competition very soon. Thanks everyone for entering.....
Last week's gigs in Raalte and Oosterend were great fun - great people at both places...this week we're in Bergeijk and Markelo.
We're expecting to be doing some live national radio shows very soon, but nothing confirmed yet - more news as it comes.
Incidentally you can now order our old Ahoy concerts [1991/1995] on DVD - each concert is 15 euros - send an email to this address and the man will tell you how to pay.
22.December
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! Thanks everyone for supporting us this year, and we hope to see you all again next year.
The single is still going strong, now at an official nr.79, its highest end-of-week position so far. We're still busy promoting it, and there are some live appearances on national radio [Radio 2 & 3fm] being lined up for January - more details when we have them.
Someone will of course be winning the free Fragment concert - we'll announce the winner in the first week of 2004 - thanks to everyone who bought the single!! And, finally, thanks Monique for this picture of Spikey!!
11.December
In the new midweek Top 100 the single is now placed at no.54 - it keeps dropping down in the official end-of-week charts, so lets hope its able to maintain its place this week.
4.December
The single is now no.63 in the Megacharts - so please help us now by buying it here.....we really need your help.....please.....
And it's nr.2 in the Nationale Tip 30
Not only does this baby have remarkably good taste, but she also has a good chance of winning the Free Fragment Concert Competition! A fine example to us all!
Thanks and congratulations are due to Wico on his beautiful, one week old daughter, Noa. We hope she's not been too traumatised by this experience.....
3.December
OK - lets be honest about this - it hasn't been the greatest of weeks for us Fragment people, [besides the concert in Bill's bar which was great fun]. The single has slipped to a disappointing no.104 in the Megacharts. Actually we're a bit confused about this. The signs were it was going up and yet it went down - the charts can sometimes move in mysterious ways.....
Oh well - but its still going strong and much can and will hopefully happen this week - thats why we decided to ask for your help. We offer you the very real chance of winning a free Fragment concert - all you have to is buy the single - yes, really! FULL DETAILS HERE And by buying it you help us a great deal, since these sales then count towards the chart position. In return one of you wins a totally free Fragment concert!
And then the website went down, just as I was typing this stuff.....bollocks! Something to do with DNS transferral or something - if you can read this now then I guess the problem is sorted. Sorry for the inconvenience!
On a more positive note we're on countless radio playlists all over the country, and starting to get more national airplay on Radio 1 and 2. And we're now at number 20 in the Rijnmond Top 30, where you can still vote for us.... so thats alright then. Although Rijnmond is, of course, 4 million euros in debt or something, which is slightly more than we are.......
And finally look out for us on RTV Oost this Thursday 4. December where we'll be on the Willie Oosterhuis Regio Tap show thingy performing "Beautiful" with the beautiful Froukje.
23.November
The new single "Beautiful has now entered the Mega Top 100 at no.65 [provisional midweek position]. We hope it might go up a bit when the official list is published tomorrow. And the airplay is starting to kick off now - loads of stations are playing it -
several now have it as their single of the week...more details soon.
A couple of nice photos here from satisfied customers. The cat's name is Whiskey, not sure about the girl.... Anyway thanks people for sending this stuff in - we are greatly amused.
And once again....PLEASE vote for our single in the Rijnmond Top 30 - we're now at no.26. Lets see if we can make the Top 10 this time - thanks!
14.November
The concert this Saturday [15.Nov] in Langeboom has been CANCELLED. Sorry to everyone hoping to see us there. It appears they have serious financial problems and are no longer able to pay for the bands. Jammer......
We've added 4 new photo galleries - Fragment with Mental Theo on TMF at Dieka, on TV Gelderland in a Mini-Cooper, Oele 2003 and Twente FM 2003.
11.November, 2003
The Beautiful single is now on sale, exclusively from this site and at our concerts....buy it here. we're getting excellent reactions from the radio stations, and we hope to make it ino the Top 100 very soon....more news of the single soon.
7.November, 2003
Anyone in the Rotterdam area might want to pop along to Plan C next Wednesday [12.November] - we're doing a short unplugged along with various other bands and musicians. Some of the numbers will then appear on a "Plan C Unplugged" CD later this year. Should be fun, we reckon....
We've added a couple of videos from the TMF broadcast in Dieka, Markelo. Fragment playing live with Mental Theo, who tries valiantly to sing along, though he unfortunately can't really sing.....Worth seeing. And so far one new mp3 from the latest Twente FM session - a dodgy version of Satisfaction, now available from the downloads page.
6.November, 2003
There's a lot going on right now - should be news of radio and TV appearances very soon - plus new stuff being added to the downloads, and new photos, and some videos too - all going up within the next few days. So keep an eye on the site.......
Why the long face?1.November, 2003
Yes - there he is at last..... the Fragment horse.....a horse with taste [thanks Saskia]. We need more photos like this...so if your hamster is a Fragment fan, send us the photos.
We've been on holiday for a few weeks....but now we're back. "Wrong Train" has now slipped gracefully out of the Top 100 [having peaked at no.48], but the next single is all ready to go.
"Beautiful" will be released any day now, so you should be hearing it on every radio station in the land within the next few weeks.
4.October, 2003
The "Wrong Train" single leapt into the Megacharts at no.58 [midweek] this week, partly thanks to the good people of Horssen and Casteren who bought it at recent concerts - thanks guys! The single has also continued to receive excellent airplay as mentioned before. And it now stands at no.16 in the Rijnmond Top 30.....This has been a better-than-expected result for what was originally only released as a promo for the benefit of radio stations...
Which brings us on to the next single - the next single is going to be "Beautiful", which appears to be the album's most popular song. We have been working on 2 new versions of the song - one is fairly close to the album's ballad version, but has now turned into a full duet with Dave and Froukje [of the band "Boulevard"] on vocals, and featuring a lovely string arrangement. The other is a heavier guitar-and-drums arrangement - both are sounding fantastic....this may well be the best single yet released by Fragment, and so we will be investing time and money into making this the massive hit it deserves to be. More about this soon........
Incidentally, some of you may have noticed that the planned promotional tour for the album has not yet happened - there was indeed a change of plan - all resources meant for that tour will now be poured into the promotion of the "Beautiful" single. Things are gonna happen....
4.September, 2003
Its going extremely well with the single, "Wrong Train" Radio 2 is now playing it most days, along with Rijnmond, Omroep Brabant, Omroep Zeeland, Gelderland, Radio Loco, Rebecca, Radio 1 and many others. Let us know if you hear it somewhere.....
And you can help us out by voting for us in the Rijnmond Top 30......
26. August, 2003
Thanks everyone for all those kind and generous messages which we received via email and in the guestbook after our Bernisse Pop performance. It was an honour to be there, and, wow, what a great public! Hopefully we'll see you all again next year!
We've added 2 new photo galleries to the photos page - Bernisse Pop and Coevorden Horecadagen.
19. August, 2003
We've just finished our run of 13 concerts in 13 days, and we're now back to some sort of normality....Mind you, we've a busy day coming up this Saturday [23.Aug]. Between 16.00 and 18.00 we will be appearing live on Radio 2's Muziekcafé, performing 3 songs from the new album - listen out for us there. From 20.45-21.30 we will be performing at Bernisse Pop in Heenvliet as support for Kane, and then we rush off to Deurne, where we will be playing in the Apollo.
We'd hereby like to apologise to all the people who went to see us in Overloon this week. We received contracts to play on Monday, and, also advertised that we would be there on Monday. Late on Sunday evening we were told that we were expected to play that evening, but it was too late for us to get there in time at that point. So in the end we were unable to play in Overloon at all, which is a great shame. We'd like to make it clear, however, that this massive cock-up was not in anyway our own fault - we believe it to be some sort of miscommunication between our agency and the gig. Heads will surely roll....
Finally, Wrong Train is now officially out as the latest single - any day now you will be able to order it from our Buy page. More details of the single here....
25. July, 2003
Its terribly busy at the moment - which means not enough time to update the site.... Anyway...loads of gigs coming up [23 in august], check out the concert agenda..special mention to Bernissepop at the end of August, where we'll be playing with Kane. Zwarte Cross [see photos left and right] last week was well cool....its not every week that we perform to 10.000 + ppl. Thanks to the Jovinks for inviting us......a couple of the guys even joined us on stage for a few songs [see photo right, featuring Jovink's Hendrik-Jan....]
We have a single out right now - some of you may have already
heard it on Radio1/2, Omroep Brabant, Rijnmond or somewhere. Its taken from the new album, its called Wrong Train, and its the one that Jono sings - you can't actually buy the single yet, but hopefully we'll have it for sale soon. Here's a short audio preview of the song Listen out for it, and let us know if you hear it somewhere.....
12.Juni, 2003
Loads of news about the album coming here soon - we're busy with a piece about it, which should tell you everything you need to know...In the meantime here's a short introductory page about "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah".....And, by the way, if you're wondering why it seems to have 2 diffrent cover designs - that's because it has....in an original piece of packaging, the CD has its own sleeve, which itself sits nicely in its own red bag...oh yes....and if thats not clear, then you'll just have to buy it!
It will not be officially released and in the shops until September....however you will be able to order it here, exclusively via this website any day now, or buy it at one of our concerts [for 12 euros]. And if we still haven't managed to convince you of its magnifence, then you will shortly be able to preview some of the songs, here on the site.....
Speaking of which - the site is going through a new and thorough update...in the short term, expect more music to download, plus some short videos of us on TV, in Ahoy and at concerts and whatever........and any day soon a whole bunch of new photos. In the long term, its all going to get evn bigger, and even better.
11.Juni, 2003
Beckum was a great gig, as always - great atmosphere as ever - 4000+ people and two other great bands - Intwine, featuring Roger, the little Idols chappy, and V-Male, formerly a cover band, now having some success with their own songs - good luck to them all. There'll be loadsa photos coming soon - here's a couple for now.....on the right, you see the beautiful Sandra of V-male, who also sang with us...
6.Juni, 2003
Yes - the album is finally finished. Its called "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah", and its being pressed right now. Which means you will be able to buy it here any day now.
It contains 12 great tracks, including the singles Bad Day and Popstars, but also a load of new stuff that most of you will never have heard before. All fantastically produced by Nico Oothuijse and us. And they're all f***ing brilliant, of course, though, clearly, we would say that.
There's loads more to tell, so look here soon for many more details, along with some short samples of the songs themselves.
11. April, 2003
Firstly - we'd like to thank Giel for having us on his supremely entertaining middle-of-the-bleedin'-night show. It was great fun again.....we did loads of stuff, some of it may even have resembled some sort of music, though we can't be absolutely certain of that. We did at least 3 of our own songs - "Popstars", "Bad day" and "She's Lost" [possibly the next single] and a whole bunch of spontaneous nonsense, and if you missed it, we'll be putting it all on the site very soon....
And then we rushed off to Hengelo for the "RegioTap" show on RTV Oost, where we scared the crumbly audience with a loud and rousing "Bad Day". Later we rubbed shoulders with the ever-so-nice [if slightly adulterous] Xander de Buisonje. Pictures here.
All in a day's work - listen out for "Bad day" on a radio station near you - its doing quite nicely, and we hope to be able to inform of more radio/TV appearance soon.
7. April, 2003
Ok everybody - its stay-up-late time - Thursday [10.April] morning 04.00-06.00 we will be on Giel Beelen's Radio 3fm show again. Worth staying up late for [or getting up early for...] - last time was a lot of fun, so we're looking forward to it......
Later that day [10.April] we will be appearing on RTV Oost in "Regio Tap" with Willy Oosterhuis, he of the strange clothes and accent.
